CNN en Español Appoints Willie Lora News Director
Willie Lora has been appointed News Director for leading Spanish-language news network CNN en Español. He most recently served as the channel’s Washington, DC Bureau Chief and will relocate to Atlanta to assume his new position. The announcement was made today by Eduardo Suarez, Vice President of Programs, CNN en Español.
As News Director, Lora becomes CNN en Español’s primary news content executive. He will be responsible for strategy, planning and execution of all newscast content, coverage prioritization and editorial vision for the network.
“Willie brings proven leadership and invaluable hands-on experience to this new post,” said Suarez. “I am confident that he is ready for the challenges and opportunities ahead.”
Lora has been at the forefront of CNN en Español’s groundbreaking U.S. political coverage and a chief architect of two of the network’s signature franchises, Directo USA and Choque de Opiniones.
A 17-year CNN en Español veteran, Lora has had extensive experience planning and producing complex event coverage as well as bringing breaking news to air. In addition to directing CNN en Español’s on-going U.S. political coverage, he also played a key role in the channel’s reportage on the Haiti earthquake, the Presidential coup in Honduras and the 50th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution. He helped land one-on-one interviews with a number of world leaders, most notably Presidents Obama, Bush and Clinton.
Prior to joining CNN en Español, Lora worked for CBS Telenoticias, Reuters International Television, WSVN Channel 7 Fox in Miami and Channel 7 Cibao in Santiago, Dominican Republic. A native of the Dominican Republic, Lora holds a Masters in Communication and Journalism from the University of Miami. He has won a number of awards for his work, and has been Knighted by the Government of the Dominican Republic, the highest civilian honor the Dominican government confers.
